I think I was channeling Britney Spears (circa 1998) when I put this outfit together. On its own, this trapeze dress is short, shapeless and a bit plain (except for the pockets – I can’t resist a dress with pockets). But since I’m a clothing hoarder, I always try to transform the items that I don’t wear often rather than giving them away (which I should maybe/probably/definitely start doing). Adding a short-sleeved oxford shirt in a summery fabric gave this dress a new life (or, according to my boyfriend, made it completely hideous). I left the last two buttons undone and knotted it up, just like an extra in the “Hit Me Baby One More Time” music video. I think the heeled sandals from Zara add a little elegance to the pseudo-schoolgirl look. Would you ever wear this?

Red and black — a classic combo. I kept the red very minimal in this outfit (heels, nails) which gives the color more power and focus. I like the pseudo-toughgirl vibe offered by a motorcycle jacket and black skinny jeans, but the look is more interesting with an unexpected feminine twist (like bright heels). To break up the black, I wore a charcoal gray American Apparel tee that I’ve had forever and carried my LV bag (which doesn’t “match” at all, but that was intentional).

I picked up the heels on sale — the leopard print haircalf detail on the back sealed the deal for me. Good job, Pour La Victoire. After purchasing, I realized I don’t own any other pairs of red shoes. Which is funny, because I recall wearing ONLY red shoes when I was little — red ballet flats, red Doc Martens (whaaat..?), red Converse, you name it. Maybe I’ve lost some of my boldness over the years, but I think the five-year-old me would dig these.

PS: I put together a collection of pretty red heels at the very end of the post (some with leopard, too — like these!).
