What’s better than enjoying a warm evening on a porch or roof deck, eating and drinking with friends? Not much, really. Here’s an outfit for a more festive backyard gathering — not necessarily a barbeque at the man-cave of one of your boyfriend’s buddies. You know. This dress from Zara is fairly versatile (sort of a stepped-up beach coverup) and I love that the black side stripes and neon block of color give it a sporty edge. The heels are juuust high enough to elongate the legs, but the chambray button-up tames the whole outfit (it’s a pretty short dress…).

On Friday night, my boyfriend and I had a little dinner date at Clio (AMAZING food, by the way). We hadn’t gone out for a longggg leisurely dinner in awhile, and we were both in a fantastic mood because the weather was finally good (terribly rainy/cold the past few days, I was sooo sick of it). Anyways, Back Bay was poppin’ off — lots of people were out walking around town and taking advantage of the warm evening.

I wore a strapless olive/bronze skater dress from ASOS with a little metallic sheen to it. I really like the black ribbon trim and bustier-style top. I wore this dress for New Year’s Eve one year, but summer-ized it with a jean jacket and low, casual heels (they’re surprisingly good for brick-walking too!). Taking a winter dress purchase and repurposing it for warm weather is a great way to stretch your wardrobe across seasons (denim jackets, white blazers and sandals are easy additions).

I’ve really gotten into this whole maxi thing. In college, I was all about SHORT dresses and skirts (maybe I still am, as you’ll see in an upcoming outfit post…), but the breezy, easygoing look of a long skirt or dress is so fresh and chic. Plus, they’re really comfortable and you don’t have to worry about shaving your legs (hah). Maxi skirts are often associated with “boho” style (think: the Olsen twins), and I wanted to depart from that look. I toughened up this silky lil’ number with a faux leather moto jacket and some seriously fluorescent yellow pumps. I’d been pining over these for awhile, but found a similar (cheaper) pair from Boutique 9 and realized I actually prefer this shade of yellow (it’s more chartreuse, and REALLY bright). Win/win.

Underneath the jacket I’m wearing an old Calvin Klein cami (or bra? Tankini top?). Sort of an odd choice, but it was inspired by the idea of turning a one piece swimsuit into a multi-tasker and wearing it out – not just at the beach. Crazy, huh?!
