I like to think of this as a classic outfit with an urban twist. The red gingham shirt is a summery staple (I see you, picnic tablecloths circa 1950) — and tucking it casually into mid-rise white jeans furthers that retro look. But with the addition of studded sandals and a military-esque jacket, the outfit gets an urban update.

Finishing touches: my Clare Vivier leopard flat clutch, and another awesome pair of sunglasses from Warby Parker — the Griffin in Blonde Tortoise. (The people who design the frames for WP must be magical. I honestly love all the styles I’ve worn so far, can’t even pick a favorite.) These are rounded and vintage-looking — I think the light tortoise color (almost an apricot hue) looks really pretty with a tan.

If you’re wondering about the location in these photos – it’s Thomas Park in South Boston (my favorite place to walk the dog and go for evening runs). The view of the city is unreal and the grass is always perfect.

I like the challenge of styling an outfit that includes a bizarre mixture of things. In this case, I wanted to wear this graphic tee from Diamond Supply Co. and decided to lighten it up with an older pair of J.Crew polka dot shorts that could be considered fairly preppy on their own. Adding a blazer and heels (that match the teal color on the t-shirt) boosts the outfit, moving it away from ‘just’ a casual t-shirt and shorts.

My new Boyd sunglasses, courtesy of Warby Parker, work perfectly with the blues and grays in the outfit. They’re so unlike any other sunnies I own (I seem to have accumulated lots of tortoise/darker brown shades…) and I’m loving the contrast of the marbled charcoal frames against my skin/hair.
