Halloween is here!

Happy Halloween! This is definitely one of my favorite holidays – I love seeing how creative people get with their costumes (I also love any excuse to dress up!). Here are a few Halloween-inspired items to get you in the spirit (that’s a ghost joke).

-An awesome X-ray skeleton dress from Topshop. Wishing I had ordered this in time for the 31st. Topshop also a more classic skeleton dress here. However, my favorite take on skeletal apparel is this sexy abstract maxi dress from Young, Fabulous and Broke.

– Some glittery nail polishes in Halloween colors.

– Amazing t-shirts (bat and skeleton) by Zoe Karssen: soft, slouchy, quirky (wear it on Halloween, or any other day). Make sure you check out these awesome bat sweatpants, too.

-A crazy/bizarre Vivienne Westwood skeleton bracelet. He looks limber!

– Tory Burch earrings in the perfect pumpkin hue.

Have a great Halloween – everyone be safe!

It feels like it’s been awhile! I just got back from an amazing weekend in Nashville for my best friend’s bachelorette party and had such a great time catching up with my college girlfriends. Will post more about the trip soon.

Today’s outfit showcases one of my all-time favorite color combinations: cobalt and burgundy. The duo is crisp and perfect for fall — creating killer contrast and depth right when the seasonal scenery starts to feel a bit gloomy (in Boston, at least). So while an electric blue coat might seem difficult to work with — after all, it’s a commanding color and claims a lot of outfit real estate in this duffle form — it’s actually super wearable. Especially when paired with warmer, moodier colors. In this look, I wore a pair of brown J Brand skinny jeans (instead of standard blue denim) to play up the warmer side of the burgundy/cobalt duo.

A gorgeous haircalf cross body by Loeffler Randall adds an intense punch of red leopard (and I’m rocking red nail polish, to boot). To experiment with mixing patterns, I doubled up on animal prints with the addition of leopard booties. The outcome is playful and unexpected: an outfit perfect for weekend brunch or a shopping excursion.

Here’s another taste of tartan. This time around, I styled my LOFT plaid pants with a little edge. Leather always accomplishes that instant, effortless cool look. I love my leather jacket with jeans and a white t-shirt just as much as I do with a silky, feminine dress — and this outfit falls somewhere in between. A black fitted top with gathered shoulders and black pumps create lengthened, sleek lines — but there’s still a casual-chic vibe overall.

Personally, I always like to wear ankle-length pants with heels — it prevents the illusion of shortened legs (the straight, slim cut is a must). In this case, the giant donut on my head also adds height and balance. LOFT has done all this work to create pants that don’t cause frustration (and mild depression… I mean, is it just me or do pants normally feel awkward and tight in all the wrong places??). I like their Marisa pants, but unfortunately they were sold out in my size at the time so I went with the Julie ankle pant instead. (Now I have my eye on these, with cute tuxedo stripes).

P.S. The black band on my left wrist is my new FitBit! My company bought them for everyone who wanted to participate in an office-wide health initiative/competition. I love it so far and it has definitely motivated everyone to get moving during the day (it’s always important to take breaks from your desk — and wearing the FitBit is a good reminder of that). It’s not the most stylish accessory, but hey — it serves a purpose.
