win nutcracker tickets! [closed]

nutcracker2

The winner is Elizabeth Hausmann – congratulations!

A week ago, I was lucky enough to be invited to the Boston Ballet’s magical performance of The Nutcracker (check me out backstage here!). When I was little, my mom and I would go see the Nutcracker every year before Christmas – and just hearing the music brings back such happy memories. In 2012, the costumes and set were redesigned, so I was definitely excited to see the changes (especially when I heard over 200,000 jewels were hand sewn onto the dancers’ costumes…). And the show was seriously beautiful – so sparkly and inspiring. My boyfriend Kevin even enjoyed it – we were both so impressed by the unbelievable talent and athleticism of the dancers (insane). Thanks to the generosity of the Boston Ballet, I’m hosting a giveaway for two Nutcracker tickets! The show is at the Boston Opera House on Thursday, December 18th, 7:30pm (just a few days away!) and I’ll be contacting the winner on Wednesday. Don’t miss out on this amazing experience – enter below!

December is officially the busiest month of the year. I swear. Hope you’ve had a good week! Today’s outfit is kind of an experiment in holiday/winter layering (and of course, I took these photos on an unseasonably warm day a few weeks ago…). I wanted to play around with mixing unexpected textures: flannel, sequins, wool, haircalf leather – and I ended up really liking all the variations of this combo. I layered my sweater over this plaid flannel (a new favorite from J.Crew), draped it over my shoulders and tied it around my waist for a few shots, too. Since there are so many prints, textures and silhouettes happening here, I wanted to anchor the outfit with pieces in similar shades of gray and silver – from top to bottom (sweater + skirt + pumps). It helps balance the overall look and makes the contrasting colors even more vibrant. And personally, I love the unusual mix of a casual plaid flannel with a shiny disco ball mini. Possible contender for a holiday party outfit? We’ll see…

Have a happy weekend!

When it comes to winter outerwear, I’ve always preferred slightly less practical coats (i.e. less warm) since they tend to be a bit more attractive. Until now, my one giant puffer coat (which admittedly is super warm) is usually reserved for walking the dog or running errands, and generally avoided whenever I’m trying to look stylish. But when I found this cozy puffer – in a delicious cocoa color – from British clothing company Joules, my outlook on winter attire got a whole lot brighter (and warmer). It’s got all the insulated goodness of a hardcore winter parka, but it’s still stylish and chic – thanks to a waist-nipping belt and detachable faux fur collar. During our Christmas tree shopping excursion this weekend, I swear I didn’t complain once about the biting cold. And to stay extra toasty, I wore a slouchy cashmere cable knit sweater from 424 Fifth (which basically feels like you’re wearing a warm hug) and buckled leather booties for a bit of edge. If you’re in the market for some warm outerwear, check out the selection here.

Hope you had a cozy weekend!
