Now that I’m back in dreary Boston, it’s slightly depressing to browse through photos of sleeveless dresses and sandals while I’m wrapped up in a faux fur blanket…but it does make me appreciate the recent getaway to South Beach even more. This winter has taken its toll on everyone, and I think we’ll all be incredibly thankful when spring decides to make an appearance (she’s fashionably late, I suppose).

Anyways, I forced my boyfriend to snap these photos one evening before dinner – outside the gorgeous hotel where we were staying: the Redbury on Collins Ave. The hotel just opened in December, so it feels really fresh and modern – not over-the-top glitzy like some of the other hotels in the area. I loved this little outdoor lounge area, with its chic black and white tiles, bright red chairs and industrial metal accents. But most of all, I loved the string lights criss-crossing overhead (I have a crazy obsession with string lights, as seen in my old Beacon Hill apartment).

Little silk dresses, like this black and white Parker number, are perfect for warm vacations because they pack easily (just be sure to hang and un-wrinkle when you arrive). Bonus: silk feels great on sunburnt skin! I love the lace up back on this dress because it adds a hint of sexiness to an otherwise conservative silhouette. And if you’ve ever been to South Beach and seen what most ladies wear (…or don’t wear), you’d understand that I was basically dressed like a 17th century Puritan woman, in comparison. Totally fine with that though.

When I’m packing for a beach vacation, my bikini selection is of utmost importance (it’s a good thing they don’t take up too much space!). But let’s be serious: a bikini that fits well and makes you feel comfortable (even on a crowded beach) can be a hard thing to find. What it comes down to is the ability to enjoy your time at the beach or pool without worrying about how you look in your suit. Without adjusting (and readjusting) bottoms that are too tight on your hips, or that ride up in the back as soon as you move. And, of course, avoiding that awkward moment when you realize the triangles on your bikini top have migrated.

When I was introduced to i love koi, a brand that recently launched in the US after being established in the Philippines, I immediately liked the bright colors and unique details – pretty pleats, frills and knots. There are tons of styles to choose from, in colors that are super vibrant and flattering. Also, the quality of the fabric is worlds away from what you find at Target and Forever 21 (and I’m not hating on those brands – I own plenty of their bikinis!), but you can be sure that i love koi bikinis will hold up summer after summer. This particular style has a structured, ruched top that’s flirty without being scandalous.

Anyways, swimwear is a weird and tricky area for every woman – and because of this, I felt a little ambivalent about posting bikini pictures on my blog and simply being so…exposed. But I honestly felt comfortable in this suit and wanted to share my thoughts on a newly discovered brand. I’ll be posting another beach look tomorrow, so check back then!

I feel very fortunate to be on vacation after a long and difficult winter — it’s been super relaxing and feels great to take some time off from my computer and iPhone. The best part of all this lounging is that I’ve actually had time to read! It’s day five of vacation and I’m on my fourth book (reading list so far: Defending JacobThe Fault in Our StarsThe Silent WifeThe Storyteller – definitely some good options if you’re looking for beach reads).

Anyways, with a relaxing vacation comes casual outfits. After months and months of strategically dressing in layers and wearing shoes that won’t get ruined in snow/slush, it feels amazing (and almost too easy) to throw on some colorful jean shorts, sandals and a loose knit sweater. I haven’t worn makeup or done anything about my hair – except letting the sun lighten up my ends so I can get closer to Jared Leto’s epic ombré.

Check back soon for a post featuring some new bikinis!
