This week I’ve teamed up with Banana Republic to show off some spring style – including more flared denim! I had actually been on the lookout for a pair of white flares, so I was super excited when these showed up on my doorstep. Paired with a sleeveless tweed top in blue, the white denim looks extra crisp and fit for spring (of course, it was a chilly 30-something degrees in Boston when I took these photos, so the look had to be topped with a coat… a bit of a buzzkill).
To make my legs look longer, I wore these jeans with heels – plus, I like seeing a little flash of metallic silver peeking out from under the hem (if you’re looking for flares you can wear with flats, Banana Republic also makes a petite version). Anyways, I’m pretty psyched to have these in my outfit arsenal for spring and I’m sure they’ll be making another appearance… as soon as Boston warms up a little.

Today’s post is for all the guys out there (mine, in particular!). So, as part of the bridal series on City Tonic, it only made sense to include some groom/groomsmen style – an area in which I have zero experience. Other than passively checking out various photos of grooms on Pinterest (alongside their brides), I never gave wedding day menswear a second thought. To be honest, I’m generally more interested in what the bride is wearing. But when Blank Label invited me and Kevin to come check out their Boston-based shop, we jumped at the opportunity.

If you’re not familiar, Blank Label is a company that offers custom-made shirts, suits, topcoats (and more) for men – at really affordable prices. Founded in 2009 as an online retailer for made-to-measure shirts, the company has recently expanded with a brick and mortar presence in Boston. It’s a place where guys can get measured for bespoke menswear while sipping scotch (not a bad shopping experience, if you ask me).

Kevin was no stranger to Blank Label after buying three custom shirts last summer – but, he was pretty excited for the opportunity to check out their suiting options and start dreaming about what he’d wear on the Big Day (I don’t know if that last part is true, but whatever…). On a sunny Saturday afternoon, we met Paige (resident menswear specialist) in Blank Label’s pattern room at Downtown Crossing. I was instantly impressed by the dapper, well-dressed mannequins on display – as well as the wide range of fabric swatches to choose from. Since we’re not having a formal wedding by any means, Kevin was thinking he’d wear some sort of stylish suit in lieu of a tux. And with Blank Label’s suits starting around $575, we agreed that this was a great option. Even though the bride kinda steals the show at weddings, the groom deserves to look – and feel – just as special (aww). Plus, ill-fitting suits can be distracting and uncomfortable… or so I’ve heard. Working with Blank Label means you can customize almost every element of your suit so it fits just right – whether that means adjusting the height of the armhole placement (so you can dance wildly all night), or just making sure your pants don’t bunch up awkwardly when you sit down for cake. You can choose from a huge selection of fabric weights, textures and colors (new options are introduced seasonally, too). My favorite part: you can add cute little details like a colorful silk lining, or a discrete monogram with your wedding date.

After all of Kevin’s measurements and fit preferences were noted, Paige told us the info would be kept on file until he was ready to place the order – and the pattern that’s eventually made for his bespoke suit would be saved so he could order again in the future. Pretty soon, we’ll take a follow-up trip to Blank Label and check out the spring and summer fabrics available for his suit. Kevin also talked about gifting custom-made shirts to his groomsmen for the wedding day (hopefully none of them are reading this post!) which is a great idea for future grooms, too. All in all, Blank Label is definitely worth a visit – whether you’re a groom-to-be, or simply a stylish dude. And ladies: a custom-made shirt is pretty much the perfect gift for your guy (give him a gentle nudge in the direction of Blank Label’s soft chambray…). Have a lovely weekend!
