Happy 2014! I decided to ring in the new year with plenty of sparkle (typical) and a new lime coat. Because I was traveling for the past two weeks, I found myself wearing a lot of dark blue or black denim (easy to style and keep clean) – so I was ready to lighten things up on the first day of 2014. The “no white after Labor Day” rule seems totally outdated – personally, I think white denim looks fresh and unexpected in the winter. Mine are more ivory than white, and this neutral lends itself well to a brighter winter palette. I also think white skinny jeans work best with heels or flats (you’ll have to brave the cold!), since boots can look too heavy in contrast.
Usually, I’d style white denim with a neutral, oversized sweater (casual and cool), but I wanted to commence the new year in my finest glitter. So I wore a shimmery Gryphon tank with iridescent sequins, and some blinged-out pumps that are literally coated in pink and white rhinestones (I had to buy them because I’m a sucker for anything bedazzled). If they were a little more comfortable, I’d probably wear them every day.
Anyways, I topped this outfit off with my new wool coat from J.Crew – in an unusual lime color that wears like a neutral. The finishing touch? Plenty of gold/ rose gold jewelry (I’m loving the new rings and brooch I got for Christmas).
